Joan Schatzke

Joan Schatzke, 66, Chaffee, ND died on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 surrounded by her loving family at her daughter's home near Casselton, ND.

Joan Elizabeth Pietsch was born on April 30, 1947 to Edwin and Marjorie (Collins) Pietsch in Fargo, ND. She attended school at Everest District 90 and in Casselton. After graduating from Chaffee High School, she attended Jamestown College and graduated from Valley City State College with a teaching degree. On August 17, 1969, Joan was united in marriage to Keith Schatzke at St. Peter Lutheran Church where she was a life time member. She taught school at Chaffee until the school closed in 1994 and then taught at Central Cass in Casselton. She retired after 31 years of teaching and was known to many of her students as "mother superior."

Joan enjoyed spending time at the family lake cabin, gardening and trips to see the ocean.

Family includes husband, Keith; Jason (Tanya) and their children, Leah, Grant and Jace, of Chaffee and Rochelle (Brad) Sinner and their children Brady, Carly and Catherine Joan of Casselton; two brothers, Don (Elvon) Pietsch, Paynesville, MN and Larry Pietsch, Leonard, ND; and sister in-law, Vonnie Pietsch, Dallas, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bill Pietsch and sister-in-law, Betty Pietsch.

Memorials preferred to the church, Casselton food pantry or ambulance service.

Visitation: Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, Casselton, ND.

Funeral: Monday at about 2 PM at St. Peter Lutheran Church, rural Leonard, ND.

Interment: Watson Cemetery.


Ogden Hagen

Ogden Hagen, 96, Fargo, ND, formerly Leonard, ND, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Bethany Retirement Living, Fargo.

Ogden Randall Hagen, known to many as "Oggie," was the first boy born in the town of Grenora, ND on Feb. 2, 1917, the son of Emil and Ella (Randall) Hagen. He grew up there and graduated from high school. Ogden started a trucking business after high school. On a rainy day in 1937, he stopped to pick up the new school teacher who was walking home. From this gesture, Ogden and Rose Schultz where married on Aug. 24, 1939 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, near Leonard. They made their home near Chaffee, ND where they farmed for many years. In 2004, they moved into Bethany Towers in Fargo and later to the nursing home side.

Oggie served on the Chaffee School Board, Elevator Board, Township Board, and Church Council and was a charter member of the Chaffee Lions.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen (Chernah), Mpls, MN; son, Kenneth (Nancy) Hagen, Leonard; two grandchildren, Erik (Hope) Hagen, Fargo and Lacey Hagen, New York City, NY; great grandson, Zander Ogden Hagen; brother-in-law, Al Opheim, Mpls, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Oggie was preceded in death by his wife, Rose in 2009 and six siblings, Evelyn, Charlotte, Maxine, Mary, Beth and Keith.

Family extends special thanks to Bethany and Hospice for their kindness and loving care.

Service: Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at 10 AM at Bethany Retirement Living - Mavis Whiting Chapel, Fargo.

Service: Monday at 2 PM at St. Peter Lutheran Church, rural Leonard.

Interment: Watson Cemetery.


John Clayton Jackson, Jr.

John Clayton Jackson, Jr., 65, passed away October 5th, 2013 while visiting his family in his hometown of Chaffee, North Dakota. He was born March 30, 1948 in Fargo, North Dakota.

John was a wonderful husband, father, and friend, and resided in Windsor, Colorado for the past 32 years. His passions consisted of gardening, antiques, being a grandfather, as well as service to others, which he did as a pharmacist for 36 years.

John was preceded in death by his father, John Jackson, Sr. He is survived by his wife Debra; daughters Rebecca (Greg Feldpausch) Jackson, and Lindsey (Clint Jasperson) Jackson; grandson Jackson Feldpausch; mother Norma Jackson of Fargo, ND; and siblings Cheryl (Roger) Kambeitz, Debbie (Ollie) Eberhardt, and Paul (Nancy) Jackson; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

John's memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 am, this Wednesday, October 9th, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, in rural Leonard, North Dakota. Memorial contributions will be given to Watson Cemetery in his honor.
