Ethel I. Roesler, 93, Casselton, ND, formerly Leonard, ND, died Sunday, September 11, 2011 in Sanford Health, Fargo.
Ethel was born June 13, 1918 at rural Leonard to William & Emma Friese. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Casselton. She attended Dakota Business College in Fargo. Ethel married Gordon Roesler December 29, 1938. Together, they raised five children; Marilyn (Arlen) Blumer, Kindred, ND, Leon (Carol) Roesler, Leonard, Bonnie (Dave) Dittmer, Rapid City, SD, Janette (Ronnie) Thompson, Red Wing, MN, Dale (Sharon) Roesler, Leonard, 16 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She deeply appreciated a special friend and caretaker, Maria Sandry, Casselton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, her parents, a brother, Lester, son-in-law, Gerald Lindell, daughter-in-law, Marilyn (Sandness) Roesler, grandsons, Jon and Jeffrey Lindell and a great granddaughter, Jordan Roesler.
She was devoted to family and friends. Grandchildren and great grandchildren will always remember the card games they played with grandma. She proudly attended ball games, plays and programs the children participated in. Ethel had a passion for gardening of vegetables and flowers. She was proud of her handiwork. She did hardanger, pine needle baskets and Brazilian embroidery. Together, Gordon and Ethel traveled to Europe, South America and 49 of the United States and for 25 years, wintered in Florida.
Visitation: Friday, September 16, from 5 to 7 in West Funeral Chapel, Casselton, with a prayer service at 7.
Funeral Service: Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 2 in St. Peter Lutheran Church, rural Leonard.
Burial: Watson Cemetery, rural Leonard.
